Some examples of our refits and boat repair works

Dream Girl

75ft mono hull, approx. 80tonne.

Work completed in shed space.

Came in to remove teak decks as there was moisture seeping up from beneath them.

The team manually crow barred the teak off the side decks and foredeck and planed from the cockpit.

Some areas on the side decks had delamination and rot. The rot was dug out and surfaces were prepped back to good substrate. PVC foam was inserted and glued in.

The surfaces were very uneven, so we filled then glassed to bring up to an even level so the water wouldn’t pool.

Coves were run then glassed going up onto the bulwark, filled and faired and uundercoated

The boat is also in for a complete repaint. To reach the extensive height, a scaffolding company has erected a multi layer structure.

Even Star

 Mono hull

We replaced 18 thru hulls (skin fittings) that were below the waterline to Trudesign fittings.

After removing one moisture was detected, we vacuum bagged this to draw the moisture from the core, back filled and sealed new fitting in

Innocenti

Mono Hull yacht, Bruce Clark 1982, 12.8m

From the onset, the team viewed the work and discussed options to repair the decks.

Once decisions had been made the job was booked in.

  • Teak decks were striped from side decks and cockpit while in the shed.
  • Deck fittings were removed, labelled and stored.
  • After removal of teak off decks and cockpit seats, the team assessed and scarfed in new ply to rotten areas, and glassed the decks.
  •  The decks/cockpit/cabin top were the sanded, filled and faired with epoxy resin and microballoons,
  • This was then sanded, masked and tented.
  • International interprotect sprayed.
  • Sanded, remasked, International 545 sprayed,
  • Sanded, remasked new tent made and sprayed with awlcraft 2000
  • Demasked
  • Seal on deck fittings and revarnished grab rails
  • Mask and apply kiwigrip non-skid

Lolalita

Privilege 65ft Catamaran yacht

Lolalita arrived to the yard after coming down from the islands.

The owner commented on how the 4 large saloon windows were leaking during their passage and when it rained. They had towels down to soak up the water.

When we checked her out the window sealant had ‘let go’

While she waited for us to finish up some jobs and get a good weather window as she was outside, we placed a dehumidifier inside to help dry her out and placed a tarp over the windows.

There is always a risk of older Perspex windows breaking when removing them, particularly when they are crazed. Fortunately we got them out in one piece.

The rebates were enormous and required a lot of work to get the surfaces prepped and ready for the windows to go back in.

The windows were cleaned up, masked and prepped for resealing.

We used 120 cartridges of FS200 (this product is specifically made for Perspex, it is very elastic and allows for movement which is a given for boats, and with share size and location of the windows the sealant has to have good flexibility).

After application we covered the windows and sealant for 2 weeks to allow sealant to cure out of UV light.

Then we got aluminium strips to help secure the window seams

Lucidity

Warrick 46

The story goes…. A farmer and his wife had a wonderful idea that they would like to build their very own boat. They chose a Warwick 46 design.

He chopped down a Kauri tree from his own farm, turned it into planks and began building their dream boat. The plan was to have it completed within 5 years and go crusing with their young family.

As we all know life has its own agenda and 40 years later the boat came to us as a glassed planked hull with the majority of interior timberwork completed.

The owner has had 40 years to plan and know what he would like in his boat, as the years passed so did technology and their age. So they have modified many components to suit their lifestyle needs. One thing they were certain of was they wanted a super yacht finish, and this has been achieved.

The project was project managed by Terry Bailey.

Our team started with prepping all exterior surfaces, so lots of sanding. Painting with international products. Epoxy undercoats, highbuild, and awlcraft 2000, non-skid on decks, cabin

  • Teak cappings/toerails were machined and constructed. We used a traditional method of heat and moisture to get the curves
  • Patterns for windows, getting made and installation in cockpit
  • Hatches, portlight installation
  • Vents and protection covers installation
  • Varnishing of inside components, tables
  • Painting in heads
  • Custom stanchions and railings
  • Sandblasting keel and fitting
  • Constructing rudder
  • Construction of boxes on transom for throughhulls to collectively come to one point
  • Huge amount of plumbing
  • Equipment going into galley
  • Electricians and putting in CZone
  • Blasting/ prepping and spraying mast
  • Rigging
  • Waterline test to determine antifoul line
  • Hull painting – epoxy undercoat, highbuild and awlcraft 2000 topcoat
  • Boot stripe
  • Antifoul
  • Gasfitters

Nomad

Sweden 340

Delamination on the hull. We ground the area back to expose damaged balsa core. Repair was complete with gelcoat blended in

Stolen Moments

Yacht approx. 30ft

 Was purchased sight unseen.

We had built a good rapport with the new owner and from here were instructed to repair the gas locker. Throughout we regularly communicated progress and sent photos.

Timber was removed back to solid timber and new timber was scarfed into place.

We rebuilt the locker and constructed teak seating. Sanded back the teak cockpit floor to gain more life again.

The curved glass windows cracked after an incident, we worked with the customer and insurance company to get this sorted.

After estimates had been approved we had glasshape measure and make the windows.
